This upright is a decent vacuum. I think you must note that 8 lbs. is not that light. It surely is light compared to other vacuums in this price range but it is not that light. A very positive note is the long cord and the strong motor. It has a strong XL, X-Tended Life motor which works great. I haven't had any problems with the Oreck Vacuum I purchased. Plus you can get a free trial from a local dealer. Its really a win-win situation. Oreck has top-fill design for maximum efficiency, and it surely is efficient. Buy with confidence

I bought my Oreck with the intention that it would be quieter than my previous vacuum. It was not at all. Rather, it was very loud. It is truly the loudest vacuum I have ever tried. Luckily, I did the free trial from a store here in town, and I promptly took it back.

Accessories for your Oreck Vacuum!!

My wife heard that the Oreck has these roller brushes that fly at 6500 RPM. And the MicroSweep lets you go from carpet to bare floors without making any adjustments. I have really enjoyed this vacuum. I would recommend doing the free trial available locally to most folks, just to make sure that its right for you. The cord is long and that makes it easy to clean my whole apartment without much difficulty. I owned a Hoover Wind Tunnel before this and there is really no comparing the two. The Oreck leaves a nice brush effect on the carpet which looks great. It lightweight, small and easily fits into corners, under my bed, my computer desk and most of the other furniture in my house. It also comes with enough cleaning accessories for my needs, although I could see some people needing different tools.

I would say that this is the best vacuum I have ever owned, but I have been vacuuming for a long time and its just not. I prefer the old style of vacuum that had an overload protection feature which I appreciated whenever I ran up on curtains or the bed skirt. It truly is easy to use and move around and since I am not very strong anymore, I use it well. I would recommend it for its ease of use, but its not the best I have ever owned.
